The 1920s had a dynamic cultural edge that inspired the designation “the roaring twenties.” A century earlier, the 1820s proved a fertile decade for classical music, and a time of significant transitions. Felix Mendelssohn’s composing career was on the rise while Beethoven’s and Schubert’s were coming to a close. This intensely human music, written between 1826 and 1829, is both uplifting and bittersweet. Performed by the Artisan Quartet and VBF Chamber Music Artists.
